Chris Collins Academy Brand Design Development
Poi created a comprehensive brand visual guideline for Chris Collins, a kung fu celebrity in Hong Kong, for his martial arts academy teaching kung fu, jiu jitsu, and more.
Design Style
The brand merges Eastern and Western influences, reflecting Chris's unique background as an American with US Marine experience and Chinese heritage rooted in kung fu. We developed a bold identity with an orange and black color palette that commands attention while remaining approachable. The design is deliberately clean and sleek, avoiding overly aggressive martial arts aesthetics. Traditional Chinese stamps and calligraphy serve as authentic brand assets, creating harmony between modern typography and cultural heritage.
Challenges
Balancing traditional martial arts heritage with modern accessibility was key. Chris's unique East-meets-West background needed authentic visual representation without clichés. The brand had to appeal to diverse demographics—children to adults, beginners to advanced practitioners—while maintaining flexibility across digital and physical applications. We avoided stereotypical "kung fu movie" aesthetics while communicating genuine expertise.
Final Deliverables
Comprehensive brand guideline with logo variations, color systems, and typography. Custom social media templates for consistent Instagram and Facebook presence. Website design that reflects the academy's unique position in Hong Kong's martial arts scene. Chris was thrilled, noting the brand perfectly captured his vision of making traditional martial arts accessible while respecting its heritage.
